Slime School is a fun, hands-on science workshop where children and young people explore basic chemistry concepts through making and experimenting with slime. Participants follow guided steps to mix ingredients, observe changes in texture and consistency, and test how different variables affect the final product. The activity encourages curiosity, experimentation, and problem-solving while introducing scientific vocabulary and processes in an engaging, age-appropriate way. Working individually and collaboratively, participants build confidence, fine motor skills, and an understanding of cause and effect through playful, inquiry-based learning.

Stage 1 (Ages ~5–7) ST1-4WS – investigates questions and predictions by participating in guided scientific investigations. ST1-10MW – describes observable properties of materials and how they change. MA1-1WM – uses appropriate problem-solving strategies when working with materials. EN1-1A – communicates ideas and observations using simple explanations and vocabulary. Stage 2 (Ages ~7–9) ST2-4WS – investigates and communicates ideas and findings using guided investigations. ST2-12MW – identifies that materials can be changed in different ways for a particular purpose. MA2-1WM – uses problem-solving strategies to explore solutions in hands-on tasks. EN2-1A – communicates ideas clearly when explaining processes and outcomes. Stage 3 (Ages ~9–12) ST3-4WS – investigates scientific questions through planning, conducting and reflecting on investigations. ST3-13MW – describes how the properties of materials determine their use. MA3-1WM – applies logical reasoning and problem-solving strategies. EN3-7C – thinks imaginatively and creatively when reflecting on learning experiences. Stage 4 (Ages ~12–14) SC4-4WS – identifies questions and problems that can be investigated scientifically. SC4-12MW – relates the properties of materials to their structure and behavior. PD4-10 – applies interpersonal skills to enhance participation in group learning activities. EN4-1A – communicates ideas and information clearly in spoken explanations. Stage 5 (Ages ~14–15) SC5-4WS – applies scientific inquiry skills to design, test and refine investigations. SC5-12MW – analyses how chemical reactions result in new substances with different properties. PD5-9 – assesses their capacity to reflect on and respond positively to challenges. EN5-1A – responds to and composes texts that explain processes and outcomes clearly.
